Welcome to the web-site of the Graduate Group in Ancient History
and Mediterranean Archaeology at U.C. Berkeley, also known as
"the Group." The Group offers a program for students with
interdisciplinary interests in the Classical, Late Antique and Ancient
Near Eastern worlds. The program leads to M.A. and Ph.D. degrees
in areas that combine work in history, art, archaeology, epigraphy,
papyrology and related disciplines of ancient studies. Its purpose is
to encourage interdepartmental pursuits that take advantage of the
rich diversity of resources available at Berkeley.

The Group includes more than thirty faculty members from ten
departments, including four new members, whom we welcome
warmly: Ron Hendel, Professor in Near Eastern Studies and a
specialist in the Hebrew Bible; Marian Feldman, Assistant Professor
